Is it dead or what? What's going on with it?

And 2) I think we should create a "trash bin" forum. Call it the Scrap Heap or something. Doesn't matter. Just that we make a forum where we can shuttle flame threads and threads that cause trouble. We make it so only administrators can post on that forum, that way the flame wars can't be perpetuated. In this way posters can see what kind of threads aren't welcome here. Not to mention that when someone gets banned around here they can see what GOT that person banned to begin with. Take Chargimus Prime, for example. I have no doubt the guy deserves his 1-month banning. The guys linking to other pics on other AllSparker servers is pretty bad. But I still don't know what he did exactly as the thread in question was deleated. Which is why I think this is a good idea.

That way if anyone gets banned, even temporarily, (an idea which I like, btw. Though I prefer a 1-week name ban, and if the person posts under another name it becomes a 1-month IP ban) we can post a link to the thread in question and people will be able to read it without being able to post on it and perpetuate the flaming. So what do you all think?

1) Perpetual limbo. MGP and Demona are *kinda* working over at the UTA board. Serenity is the most active person working on it right now. Spiderbo pops in every once in a while to boost pep. 'Surge and I are "on leave." Nobody else goes there any more.

The UTA? I don't know...I do know that it's still being planned out and worked on, but otherwise *see Chrono's post*

There's another option for the "trash bin" thingy: we could also save the thread as a regular HTML document and then delete it. This way, it won't be on the forum and possibly start new problems. But, it would still be easily accessible to whomever wants to read it. Ideally, it could be hosted on a separate web site for viewing. One site in particular immediately springs to mind...

Wait wait wait...weren't you the one to advocate the policy of letting flame threads solve themselves or just die out? Or was that someone else? Damn...can't remember now. I know SOMEONE brought that up. Sigh...damn 8am classes...my brain is fried.

Re: Move threads? Impose sanctions?

Moderate first. If that fails, then start thinking about sanctions. There are only a couple of obvious exceptions to this. If porn is posted, immediate action is required. If "pure hate" is posted--nigger, faggot, jew, etc.--that also requires swift action.

Personal note: Take great care that we never apply a double-standard. I'm not trying to stir up old wounds, but one of the allegations about CHOP was his "Rackaction" character. (Yes, yes. I know that was only one of dozens of "crimes.") But, tell me honestly: doesn't it seem just a wee bit hypocritical for an Andministrator to give the custom title "Master of Crotch Action" to (as I recall) Gbot when earlier we came down on CHOP for the character name Rackaction? It does to me. The point is, we really need to be clear and consistent.

Re: UTA.

I check the forum from time to time. I still don't have a clear understanding of what the goal is. However, I do know for a fact that some really fine people look upon the UTA as a "direct threat" to The AllSpark. Yes, I know that sounds a bit odd, but since there is a lack of knowledge concerning the project, I can easily understand their fears. I am in no position to calm their fears, because--as I said--I have no clear understanding of the goals myself.

No, I was talking about heated debate. Let THAT work itself out. If the possibility exists for flaming, then we moderate. Outright flame threads are just that. Flame threads. "Nameless AllSpark Poster Sucks Donkey Balls". That's a flame thread. Chargimus Prime started one, albeit directed at himself. The only obvious result from it being a flame war. SPAT started another aimed at Chargimus. THAT we lock. There's a difference between heated debate and flame wars, though people can get VERY pissed in both.

I suggest this because I really don't know why Chargimus got banned and would really like to know. I know the guy's done some stuff. Specifically 1 thread about attacking Bottalk. Not to mention linking to other people's sites and stealing their pics and bandwidth, rather than get his own geocities page. Especially after a crapload of people asked him to stop. THAT, I think, does warrant a 1-month ban (Though not a permanent one). Hopefully the guy will realize that he shouldn't be stealing the bandwidth of other AllSparkers and not do it again when he comes back.

Whether it's done or not, though, can the specific threads at least be moved to the CoE? That way at least the rest of us can catch up and see what's up. And if needs be we can always move it back out. As for Chargimus, I think a 1-month ban, after all his bandwidth stealing, is a good idea. Hopefully he'll learn his lesson when he comes back. My point is that it'd be nice if the rest of us could know what's going on, rather than having to piece together what happened from tea leaves and the entrails of animals. $:\$

There is no excuse for flames: If someone has a problem with another poster they should either notify that poster via e-mail or tell the CoE of the situation.

A trash forum would be a very good idea. (Give it a Junkion reference as a name...) I cant have an opinion on Chargimus Prime because I didnt see the entirety of his questionable threadsif its gone, crucial evidence has been lost if we have to ban him for a longer period of time.

Well...the UTA was moving along...then Kalidor became this massive self-imposed speedbump over there.

Now that some time has passed, and Kal's selfish move was worked around...the spark has returned to it...and its slowly picking up its pace...slowly.
